Katie Thom is a school psychologist and mental health and wellness advocate serving children and their families in the Winnipeg community and surrounding area. A certified mindfulness teacher (Paws b, .b, .b foundations, and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction – MBSR), Katie is passionate about living life in the present and the art of “living well.”
Her professional and personal interests in strategies for building positive mental health and resilience have inspired her over the years to volunteer through a variety of community-based organizations serving youth and their families, including those affected by neurodevelopmental disabilities and mental health issues.
To support her work, Katie has pursued extensive professional development and certifications, such as Mental Health First Aid, Applied Suicide Intervention Training (ASIST), Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training (NVCI), and Violent Threat Risk Assessment training (VTRA).
Katie is passionate about knowledge translation and enjoys leading workshops for parents, school staff, and the general public. She is known for bringing a kind, caring, and fun attitude to discovering the beauty in the everyday.
A mother to two young children, Katie is keen on being authentic in the information she delivers to staff, students, and families, such that she strides to uphold the discipline of practicing what she preaches, understanding that raising children is a beautiful, messy, wholehearted rollercoaster of ups and downs.
