- Autism Europe International Conference 2016. Katie contributed to a collaborative poster presentation on Happiness and Wellness in Autism Spectrum Conditions with members with members of the Social Cognition from the University of Manitoba, which was presented at the Autism Europe International Conference, Edinburgh, Scotland in September, 2016.
- CPA 2016. Katie contributed to a collaborative in-depth presentation on Developmental Aspects of Emotional Intelligence and Social Emotional Learning in Aytpical Populations with members of the Social Cognition from the University of Manitoba. Canadian Psychological Association Conference 2016, Victoria, BC. June 11, 2016.
- CMHCC 2016. Katie presented a workshop on using mindfulness training to support the wellbeing of diverse learners using a collaborative care model, at the Collaborative Mental Health Care Conference in Kelowna, BC, Canada. June 18, 2016.
- IMFAR 2016. Katie presented a poster on her thesis research at the International Meeting for Autism Research in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, May 13, 2016.
- Paws b children’s research study. Katie collaborated with members of the Social Cognition Lab to explore the feasibility and impact of a mindfulness-based skills group curriculum on the social-emotional outcomes of children 7-11 years of age living with autism spectrum disorder. Results suggest the program benefited students’ social skills and self-concept.
- .b Foundations course at the University of Manitoba. Katie carried out a mindfulness project with graduate student clinicians training to work in schools, which saw powerful benefits across diverse measures of emotional wellbeing and resiliency.
- .b Teen Group: In the Fall of 2015 Katie collaborated with senior OT-clinician and Ph.D. candidate Karen Penner to deliver skills group programming for youth and their parents/ caregivers at the St. Amant Centre in Winnipeg. These programs promoted self-awareness, self-care, self-calming, and social skills using an approach grounded in mindfulness, neuroscience and research on mind-brain-body relationships.
- Katie presented on her research and community volunteer work alongside her peers of the University of Manitoba Social Cognition Lab at the 2015 Manitoba Asperger Inc. Conference, Seeing You Seeing Me, October 29, 2015.
Katie offered an in-depth introduction to mindfulness and applications in students living with autism to families and support workers at the Canadian Conference of Developmental Disabilities and Autism (CCDDA) 2015 on June 3, 2015.
Katie presented alongside Karen Penner, an occupational therapist and Ph.D. student, on “Mindfulness in schools- Emergent practice” at the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) national conference on May 30, 2015.
